(04/07/06) Here's the front stub with the final modifications and patch-up. ZooKeeper made very beautiful welds. Gussets were made to strengthen the lower A-arm mounts and the main factory seems were re-welded. Cut-outs were for header and oil pan clearance. Even though I don't have a picture here, the stub was re-blasted, primed, painted semi-gloss black, and bolted to the car for the last time.
(03/11/06) The front stub has been modified to allow proper clearance with the '01 heater core, AC, and aftermarket headers and steering box. The stub will be welded back up and steel tubing will come up from the stub to mount the engine in place. Adapter brackets were made to allow old GM 350 engine brackets to hold the LS1 down.
We wanted to bring the engine back a couple more inches for better weight distribution, but the alternator would get in the way of the subframe and we also didn't want to engine get too close to the plastic heater core.
The subframe cross-member had to be trimmed for the mid-length headers fit.

The picture below shows the under-sling bars and a shaved rear frame to allow for tire clearance.
The torque arm connected to the supporting braces and sub-frame connector.
The two pictures below shows how the firewall was modified to fit the 2001 Trans Am heater core. The '01 TA firewall was cut around the heater core and welded in the '71 for a direct bolt-in. ... barely fits!
Top of the cowl needed to be cut for heater core clearance.
Kick panel vents were filled in and the '01 TA console bracket was cut and welded onto the '71 drive shaft tunnel.
